October is International Walk to School Month!
International Walk to School Month, also referred to as IWALK, invites Halton Region students – and students from all across the world – to walk and roll to school throughout the month of October!
This year, IWALK to School Day is on Wednesday, October 1st; but schools can choose any day or week in October to celebrate!
Active school travel offers a range of benefits for students and the wider community!
– Improves physical health through regular exercise
– Boosts mental well-being by reducing stress and increasing focus
– Reduces traffic congestion around schools
– Lowers air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions
– Creates safer school zones by decreasing the number of cars
– Instills lifelong healthy habits related to active living and sustainability
IWALK 2025 Active School Travel Student Poll
Halton elementary and secondary schools are encouraged to participate in our Active School Travel Student Poll below!
This simple hands-up style classroom poll will take just minutes to complete each morning. The poll will consist of school staff asking students to raise their hand when asked if they used various modes of travel to get to school that day.
Please note that only school staff can complete this poll. Please contact planning.services@hcdsb.org if you are a staff member and you have forgotten your school’s administrator code.
